Fresh light filters through tall pines
and Palmetto palms.
Trees arrayed with Spanish moss
emerge from forested ambiguity.
Light shafts reveal yellow-green portals
into the leafy domain where birds chatter
with daybreak’s sound-bite greeting codes.
Cotton-puff clouds edged in gold
break free from night’s obscurity.
Awed by nature’s drama,
I breathe in the aroma of early summer,
relish the caress of a soft breeze,
and wonder how long it will be
before morning’s curtain call
is lost in sweltering humidity!
